Danny Lee Gravitt, 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 26, 2018

Danny Lee Gravitt, of Oklahoma City, OK, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018. Dan was born in Oklahoma City, OK to parents Edna P. Laughlin and Marion P. Gravitt, on August 15, 1946.

Dan honorably served as a Navy Sea Bee in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1964, and became an Electrician, being self-employed with Dan-Dy Electric for fifty plus years. Dan was loved by all who met him. He learned the electrical trade under the supervision of Mr. Eldon Hall in his shop class & went on to develop a lifelong career including joining IBEW electrical union. He took so much pride in his work & passed his knowledge of the trade to several nephews, Charley Dan, Jason, Laymon and his boys, as well as a Great-Niece, Dani Beth.

Danny was loved by all who met him. He had a special place in his heart for children. All kids from his own grandkids to his nieces and nephews, to the neighborhood and church kids, as well as Vietnam children were drawn to him and knew him as Dandy Dan the candy man. Some of his favorite activities revolved around children such as playing Santa Claus each Christmas and joining the Shriners and becoming a Shrine clown.

He also went from coaching his own daughters in t-ball and softball to becoming every child’s number one cheerleader! He would drive hours from one event to the next to watch dirt bike races, softball/baseball games, wrestling, FFA shows, basketball, etc.

Danny had a love for all things outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. I’m sure every one of you probably have a fish story with him in it. Some of Danny’s favorite family traditions included holiday gatherings such as Easter at Kevin and Kerri‘s, and Christmas and Thanksgiving between Kemi and Kristi’s homes and special family announcements were always made at Coney Island. Dan lived every moment to the fullest & was full of spontaneity!

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Toni) of Oklahoma City, OK, three daughters; Kemi and Brad Griffith, Kristi Gravitt, Kerri and Kevin Helm, all of Moore, OK, eight grandchildren; Dalton, Harlie, Hunter, Taylor, Hope, Kortney, Brody, Shelby, 2 great-grandchildren, one sister; Marilyn and Joe Tytanic, of Harrah, OK, two brothers; Philo Gravitt and wife, JoAnn, and Mike Gravitt and wife, Marilyn, of Oklahoma City, OK, numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Marion P. and Edna P. Gravitt, and his niece, Dani Beth Gravitt.

Services for Dan will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at South Lindsay Baptist Church, in Oklahoma City, OK. Interment to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City, OK. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, Moore, OK.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kaleb Ford Support Trust thru Great Plains Bank, (405)720-4731 or Veterans Corner.

Uncle Dan- you are loved by so many. My boys always called you “Uncle Dan”. The memories of you coming over as Santa will always be special. I will miss our hunting trips, and our long conversations about our military experiences. There is, and always will be a void in our lives- without you! You are one of my best friends. A father I never had, an uncle, and a comrade. May God bless you! I love you always.

Dan and I go back the full 23 years I have been at Locke Supply. Not only was he mu customer but he was a great friend and will be missed dearly. He always had a way to brighten the room when he entered. I pray God will lift the family up in His arms and love and comfort you all during this "bump" in the road of life.
